About the Municipality

The southern gateway of Pampanga.

Born from the santol tree groves that lined our riverbanks, Masantol is a delta town at the heart of the Pampanga River system — riverside, riverswept, and steadfastly Kapampangan.

Originally named San Miguel de Masantol, three of our patriarchs — Manuel Fajardo, Gregorio Bautista, and Juan Lacap — filed a motion on June 26, 1877, to separate from Macabebe. The new pueblo was inaugurated on May 1, 1878, and after a brief reunification with Macabebe in 1904, Masantol was permanently restored as an independent municipality in 1907.

Today, Masantol is a second-class income municipality covering 48.25 km² along the Pampanga delta. Our economy is anchored on agriculture, freshwater and brackish-water fishing, and small-scale enterprise. We sit just 18 km from the provincial capital San Fernando and 62 km from Manila.

And while the floods test us every wet season, the spirit of our people — fueled by faith in San Miguel Arcangel and the love of family — keeps Masantol moving forward.
